Overall a great experience. It's great to have a company where you can talk to people who know what they are doing. They were extremely professional. From initial office staff through to the engineer doing the installation. I would strongly recommend them.

3 reasons businesses are making the transition to EV

Have you been thinking about making the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) for your business? Maybe you want to persuade your boss that green is the way to go? Whether you’re eager for an electric company car or you’re debating transitioning your entire fleet to electric vehicles, you’re not the only one who’s gearing up for change.

Many forward thinking businesses have already made the switch to EVs and are reaping the financial and environmental rewards. There are plenty of reasons why making the transition to EV for business is a smart one, so read on to explore why this could be the right next step for you.

Will EVs save my business money?

Let’s start with the economic benefits. We understand that businesses have to make smart financial decisions, and luckily that’s a huge part of what makes the transition to EV such a great option.

Figures have shown that EVs cost up to 80% less to run than the petrol and diesel vehicles they replace, meaning significant savings for your business. EVs cost between two and four pence per mile to run, whereas traditional vehicles cost anywhere between ten to fourteen pence per mile (RAC).

When buying EVs for business, a £2,500 or 35% (whichever is lower) discount can be applied to the purchase price. This is applicable whether they’re to be used as part of a fleet or as a company car for employees, meaning you can make noteworthy savings from the get-go. The same discount applies to electric vans, and even increases up to £6,000 for electric vehicles categorised as large. A few extra bonuses are that EV drivers won’t be required to pay road tax until 2025 and also don’t pay congestion charges in London - savings that all add up!

A further financial benefit (yes, there’s even more!) of the transition to EVs is the reduced maintenance costs. EVs are inherently more reliable than traditional vehicles due to fewer mechanical parts prone to failure, meaning you’re less likely to have to splash the cash on repairs.

Will EVs make my business more sustainable?

EVs are a sustainable choice for businesses as they produce significantly less greenhouse gases and air pollutants compared to their petrol or diesel equivalents, according to a recent European Environment Agency (EEA) report.

Although EVs still have environmental implications during manufacturing, over their lifetime they don’t emit any soot or carbon dioxide emissions, meaning they help to reduce pollution and improve air quality. They’re a great long term commitment to sustainability; the government's Road to Zero report shows that EVs have greenhouse emissions 66% lower than a petrol car and 60% lower than a diesel one, making them compliant with clean air standards.

Will EVs improve my business’ reputation?

Transitioning to EVs is an effective way to promote your company’s environmental stance, as it shows a strong and active commitment to sustainability. Dedication to reducing your carbon footprint is a great way to boost business, with consumers increasingly favouring brands that show a positive approach to environmental sustainability (Recycling Lives).

EVs are a great way to keep your employees happy too; commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of their daily commute has been shown to have a positive impact on employee engagement, helping to enhance retention and making you a more attractive employer (Centrica).

Installing charging stations at your company location and implementing ‘at work’ charging is another way to improve employee satisfaction. Not only can employees charge up whilst at work, but if your business is customer-facing, EV charging stations can be a great additional revenue stream when opened up to the paying public.
