Overall a great experience. It's great to have a company where you can talk to people who know what they are doing. They were extremely professional. From initial office staff through to the engineer doing the installation. I would strongly recommend them.

Considerations for Businesses When Installing EV Charging Stations

If you’ve made the decision to invest in EV chargers for your business, you may be wondering what the next steps are. There are many considerations to make when prepping for an EV charge point installation, and our handy guide will show you everything you need to think about before installation day.

How much does it cost to install EV charge points?

The cost of an EV charge point installation depends on multiple factors. For example, the more chargers you wish to install, the more expensive. Some models also cost more than others, and installation fees can differ depending on where the charger will be located.

For businesses, the Workplace Charging Scheme reduces the cost of EV charge point installation by up to 75%, providing funding of up to £350 per charge point. To be eligible for this scheme, you must:

  • Have off-street parking at your premises

  • Be able to clarify why your business needs EV charge points

  • Have the charging points installed by a supplier that is approved by the OZEV (Mr Charger are!)

  • Be installing no more than 20 doubles or 40 singles

Where shall I have the EV charge points installed?

There are some criteria that must be followed for EV chargers to be installed for businesses. Permission is not required for wall-mounted chargers on owned property, but if you’re renting you will need written consent from the owner. You must also have a sufficient electricity supply, especially if you have multiple EVs, and the number of chargers installed will need to be balanced against the amount of electricity available.

How do I find the right installer?

Finding the right installer can be tricky, especially when there’s so much to consider. The key things you need to look for are experience, knowledge and location.

EV charge point installations are more complex than other property installations, so installers need a more advanced understanding of earthing and bonding. They must also follow various regulations required for EV installations. Without the expertise of a specialised installer, the process may not run as smoothly as possible.

At Mr Charger, our installers are skilled specialists, with plenty of experience in their field. We’re fully Office of Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) accredited and are leading experts in the world of EV charge points.

It’s also worth choosing an installer local to you for convenience. If you ever need your chargers serviced, it’s a lot easier for a local engineer to head out to help than someone further afield. It also makes maintenance services easier for you to access, should you want them. We have specialists stationed all across the UK with new franchises popping up all the time. Use the handy function on our website to find your local Mr Charger specialist.

What happens after the EV charge points have been installed? Are there any additional costs?

Once your EV chargers have been installed, it’s important to keep them maintained to ensure they’re working correctly. They should be regularly inspected for dirt and cleaned with a soft cloth or brush. EV charge points should also have regular electrical safety checks and occasionally need software updates.

We offer an aftercare package which includes a range of services, including site service inspections, annual safety reporting of the charging unit, ad-hoc and/or emergency queries and more. There is an additional cost for this and prices can be found in our Maintenance Guide.

You can find more information on maintenance and support for installed EV chargers on our website.
