You also need to make sure that the installation location is close enough to where you park your EV for the cable to reach. Another thing to consider is the distance between your home’s power supply and the location of the charger, as there are many different limits for EV charger installations.

Which EV charger should I use?

When choosing an EV charger, you need to decide whether you’ll benefit more from a tethered or untethered charger. Tethered chargers have a permanently attached charging cable and are incredibly convenient for home installations, whereas untethered chargers have a detachable cable that you can unplug from the unit.

Prepping your home for installation

Your EV chargepoint installation should take roughly 2 hours, but this can vary depending on factors such as the location of the EV charger. During the installation, your power will need to be turned off so keep this in mind when booking in your installation.

Be sure to clear the designated installation location and remove any obstacles and make sure the electrician has access to the electrical panel and necessary tools. When the installation is complete, the electrician will explain how to use the charger and how to keep it maintained.
